In 1995, Jonathan Faulkner began a journey with a wheelbarrow, a truck, and a vision. What started as shaping dry cast pavers for Marlborough and Nelson grew into a legacy of construction and community impact. By 1996, Conpavers was formed, laying not just concrete, but the foundation for enduring relationships with leading industry partners.
From paving the streets of Blenheim’s CBD in the late 90s to transforming public spaces like Queen Charlotte lookout and Picton’s London Quay, our work became a permanent part of the built environment. What began as one man’s determination evolved into something greater: a group of companies united by shared values, technical expertise, and a commitment to shaping spaces that serve people for generations.
In 2018, Conpavers, Total Tactilez, and MC Construction came together as CMT Group. While our scale has grown, our core remains the same: a family-driven company, grounded in integrity, quality, and a genuine responsibility to the communities we build for.
At CMT Group, every project is guided by values that go beyond construction - they define who we are and how we build.
Humble foundations
From a Marlborough paving business to a nationwide group, we have never forgotten our beginnings. Integrity and accountability shape our decisions, and trust is built through open and honest communication across every part of our business.
The project begins with our people
Our people are the heart of every project. We create inclusive, engaging workplaces that prioritise health, safety, wellbeing, and family. By working as one team, we ensure no compromise on quality, delivery, or safety.
Hard hat mahi
We get the job done - on time, within budget, and to the highest standard. Planning, precision, and service are the cornerstones of our mahi. We constantly look for ways to improve, always striving to exceed client expectations.
Building for the future
We are deeply connected to the communities we serve. Every project is an opportunity to invest in sustainable practices, support local initiatives, and create spaces that endure for generations.
From large-scale civil projects to architectural builds, CMT Group brings together breadth and depth of expertise:
Subdivision delivery – With many years of experience in end-to-end subdivision projects, we manage every stage of development, from siteworks and infrastructure through to landscaping and handover. Our expertise in coordinating large, complex subdivisions ensures deadlines are met, risks are managed, and communities are delivered ready to thrive.
Construction – Multi-level commercial buildings, seismic strengthening, prefabrication, and fit-outs. We partner with clients from concept to completion, ensuring cost-effective, innovative solutions tailored to project requirements.
Civil works – Subdivisions, large earthworks, drainage, roading, and bridge construction. Our ISO HSQE pre-qualification and Waka Kotahi certification give stakeholders confidence that we consistently exceed industry standards.
Landscaping and paving – With roots in precision paving, our work continues to transform outdoor environments, linking functionality with design.
Accessibility solutions – Through Haptix (formerly Total Tactilez), we create safer spaces with tactile indicators and stair nosings that enhance wayfinding and public safety.
Our integrated approach means greater control over timeframes, budgets, and outcomes - delivering certainty for stakeholders while maintaining the architectural integrity of every project.
For us, sustainability is more than compliance - it’s responsibility.
Waste reduction – Onsite sorting systems reduce landfill waste by up to 85%. Concrete waste is crushed and reused, timber is resold or repurposed, and materials are recycled back into community projects.
Community benefit – Repurposed project by-products, from firewood to garden mulch, find their way back into local communities, iwi, and charities.
Every decision is an opportunity to leave a lighter footprint and create positive impact.
Nearly three decades on from Jonathan’s first paving project, CMT Group has become more than a construction company. We are a trusted partner to government agencies, developers, and communities across New Zealand. Our growth has been guided by humility, hard work, and a belief that what we build today should enrich tomorrow.
For our stakeholders, this means certainty, quality, and a partnership built on integrity. For our communities, it means spaces that inspire, endure, and support wellbeing for generations.
At CMT Group, we don’t just build structures - we build legacies.
