We were delighted to be chosen as a subcontractor for Armitage Williams Construction Ltd to upgrade the Redwood Care Retirement Village suites, in Blenheim.
This project consisted of the removal of the old existing building and replacing it with a brand-new, modern build to better suit residents’ needs. This was comprised of two new hospital care rooms, a catering kitchen, a lounge and staff areas. In the existing areas three new care suites were installed, a new sluice, reception area and fresh new modern facilities such as a servery and lounge for residents to enjoy.
At the beginning of the project, our in-house civil team demolished the old building to clear the site, and then they proceeded to lay a new foundation. They completed all the drainage works, foundation excavation and backfill, box/pour concrete floors, forming new carparks including kerbing and line-marking and acoustic fencing.
Then our building team worked on the carpentry works alongside the Armitage Williams team to finish all the details on the hospital upgrade to the village. Final asphalt works were done by Fulton Hogan to allow this part of the project to finish up.
Phase 2 of the project includes a two-story care facility being built which will adjoin with the current Phase 1 build. This will be completed over the next year. Heading into stage two, the new concrete foundation was laid. Next, the asbestos was carefully removed from the old building. Now our expert Digger Driver Dave Johnston is working on the demolition. The progress has been challenged by bad weather, floods and the pandemic during these times but the Armitage Williams Construction Ltd and CMT Group NZ Ltd teams have been dedicated to deadlines, so residents will be able to enjoy the addition to the village in no time.
