CMT Group and Kāinga Ora have partnered to create multiple new builds across the South Island. Operations Manager Anton Faulkner explains “Having a great relationship with Kāinga Ora means we can help roll out houses to those in need, as quick as possible.”
Our Canterbury building team lead by Scott Burgess has made significant progress on the two new developments in Halswell. Both buildings, are part of a plan to deliver more warm and dry homes in areas of high demand. Kāinga Ora are replacing older state houses with a greater number of new and modern homes.
Cobra Street has a land area of 809sqm and will consist of four, one-bedroom standalone homes. Ensign street, with a matching land area of 809sqm, consists of four, one-bedroom duplex homes. Both are designed with accessibility in mind, while making the most of the section. They include safe off-street parking and 6 Homestar compliance.
The builds, conveniently around the corner from each other have been a great team project to date. The roof and windows have been erected on each home, and the outside cladding, and interiors are progressing currently.
Challenges to date include continuing material supply issues that've plagued the team. With careful planning we have managed to eliminate any delays to the program
Jay Palmer who is an apprentice on our team says “Developing these houses has been a great learning experience for me. It’s exciting being able to have hands on work for all elements of the build. My teammate, Jason Johnstone, has really been instrumental in showing me the ropes. His patience is admired and I’m lucky to have a great team to show me the ropes.”
Thank you to all the contractors to date who’ve been part of the build including:
