Another project done and dusted. We’ve just handed over keys on our second biggest residential project to date. The new subdivision on the corner of Charles and Richmond Streets in Blenheim, has been a huge success. Consisting of the construction of six stand-alone homes and two duplexes, the project provides much-needed housing for our client Kāinga Ora Homes and Communities and the community. The 10 homes have replaced four existing houses so Kāinga Ora can provide more housing for more people in need.
The CMT Team have been the lead contractor on this project from demolition to completion. Demolition of the existing site started in June 2022 and keys were handed over in early August 2023. Site Manager Case De Wagt says “I had a really great time on this project. I gained invaluable learning experience and had a great team behind me which helped us make this a success.”
The project wasn’t without its challenges, including bad weather, limited parking and working to ensure that neighbouring residents and businesses weren’t disturbed. We worked with Kāinga Ora to respond with flexibility, putting up an acoustic wall to reduce noise pollution to the neighbouring hotel and planning parking and roading to cause minimal disturbances to the public.
Construction Manager Jeff Valk commented “This subdivision has been a great success for the CMT team. The tight site and lack of parking presented a challenge, but our team adapted. We planned ahead to ensure the project was completed right, with minimal disturbance to the surrounding residents and businesses.”
Local iwi, Rangitāne, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, and Ngāti Rārua, came out to bless the properties at sunrise on August 14, the final step before handing over the homes to their new inhabitants. We’re pleased to be able to contribute to this development and the significant impact it will have on the welfare of the community.
