Elie Bay Culvert Project

As part of the wider Waitaria to Raetihi flood-repair programme across the Kenepuru Sounds, our team completed essential culvert works at Elie Bay for Marlborough Roads. The overall programme focuses on restoring and strengthening key sections of the network after significant storm damage, with improvements designed to enhance long-term resilience and water management.

Our scope at Elie Bay formed one part of the broader package, which includes replacing damaged culverts, flushing and installing new lines, repairing road shoulders, and regrading road sections to improve drainage and driving conditions.

Working in the Sounds often means operating in remote, weather-affected areas, and this project was no exception. Due to road closures, our team would need to make a relatively long drive in the early morning to ensure proper access to the site. Our local team is well-experienced in navigating these challenging environments, bringing the practical knowledge and commitment needed to keep projects moving safely and efficiently. This capability is a key benefit for Marlborough Roads, who rely on trusted experts familiar with the terrain and the logistics required to deliver work in isolated locations.

The project was managed by Civil Project Manager Weluke Gutsell, with our team delivering the civil works required to keep the route safe, functional, and better prepared for future weather events.
