Takapūneke Reserve opens for Matariki

To celebrate the completion of stage one of the Takapūneke Reserve development, locals and key people were invited to the site for Matariki. The unveiling of the beautiful Tū te Raki o Te Maiharanui took place on the morning of the 24th June.

About 150 locals attended both the private dawn ceremony and the midday public event, which was followed by a public planting of native plants on the reserve. CMT Group have been the main subcontractor from City Care, responsible for creating the architecturally designed reserve. It is of special cultural significance and our team followed strict tapu guidelines as the construction was undertaken.

Construction Manager Ross Baynes gives us an update prior to the opening of stage one.

We've worked closely with the local Tāngata Whenua and Christchurch City Council to bring this project to life. In particular Neil Andrews, Contracts Engineer at Christchurch City Council. Hear what he has to say about working with us. Plus take a look at the Stuff article below about the opening event.
